Answer Rob’s Question!

We at Twilight News got the opportunity to interview Rob before the Premiere in London!  One of the questions I asked Rob:

‘When you walk into a room now, do you feel out of place if no one screams at you?’

He laughed and said, ‘It’s really weird.  You run a website, can you ask the readers this question? Did people scream while reading the books?  I want to know!’

So Twilighters, enlighten Rob!  Did you scream while reading the books?

We will have our interview with Rob (as well as Kristen and Catherine) up shortly once we get the format right!  We look forward to your comments!

No, but I did laugh a lot while reading Breaking Dawn. My mom kept walking by as I laughed out loud at nothing she could see. She probably thought I had gone insane. :]

  2. Elyzee says:

    Hi Rob :)

I’m from Chile (living in the usa though) and I don’t scream unless I’m being chased by either: A) a scary dude with a knife, or B) a zombie. As I was growing up, my parents always told me it was uncouth to scream unless I was in one of the above situations. Okay, maybe they never mentioned zombies, but you know. :)

So anyway… to answer your question I didn’t scream at all while I was reading Twilight. I was extremely scared of the way Edward watched Bella sleep, though – so I hid under my sheets for a while, haha. When I saw you in person at the Order of the Phoenix premiere I did not scream either, I was quietly intrigued by you! :)

  3. Sapphirepa says:

I didn’t scream for any of the books, but I thought they were very well written. They dragged you into the characters. I tend to be an emotional reader, meaning that what ever the characters are felling I feel it too.

I think you caught the essence of Edward very well. As being very passionate and very conflicted about how he feels about Bella. You did very well.

Looking forward to seeing more of your films, and to see how you will grow as an actor.

I didn’t scream so much reading the books as much as I squealed while reading them. Take that as you will.

  5. crazypam08 says:

    Hey Rob,
yeah. i did scream when i read the books…
    most in…
NEW MOON when edward left bella and when it was jacob parts
and ECLIPSE when jacob kissed bella then bella kissed jacob.

    :)))

  6. crazypam08 says:

    i even cried. haha. :))

  7. conker_head says:

    lol
i didn’t scream. but i squealed at some points hahaha.
    wow, i feel weird now.

  8. Dani P.Brazil says:

I´m from Brazil, I read all the books I am reading the 3rd time now, and every time I cry, and I scream, scream, and I laugh a lot too.

  9. forever.dazzled says:

not really.. mentally screaming, i guess. but after being dazzled by Robert Pattinson, and rereading the books.. YUP.. i did scream.. lolx. XD

  10. Anna513 says:

I didn’t scream while I was reading the books, but I definetly was a scream inside of me… I’m on the 3 book and i’m loving it (exept by jacob..I hate jacob!!) everybody says that the 4 book is impossible not to scream…well, lets see..kkk…oh, and my friend Mari wants me to say that she loves the books too..

  11. ali_08 says:

Actually i did scream quite a few times. and cried. and yelled. and threw my book a few more times. And everytime i would do this my mom would ask me if i was okay and then i would get back to reading the amazing book and just when my mom thought i was okay i would start yelling at the book telling bella to do something or edward to kiss her. It was pretty hilarious how much i was into those books. It took me a week to read all the books and that was during school too. =] Oh and i defanitely screamed throughout the movie, with all those boys how could i resist!! lol

  12. BlueStarlight says:

Well, Rob, if you’re reading this, I want you to know that I read the books because YOU were playing Edward… I saw the trailer for the movie first, then went out and got the books. You were always in my head when reading, so I didn’t have another mental image of Edward. I loved your portrayal of Edward, and I’m really looking forward to being dazzled again in the sequels!

I screamed at Edward in “New Moon” when he left Bella…after I cried my eyes out when he said he didn’t want her! I didn’t quite understand him then; this was back in July when I first found the books. I read “Twilight” so fast, that I didn’t catch all of Edward’s feelings and emotions. I did scream in relief when Bella rescued Edward in Volterra; I missed him terribly!

I squealed a bit at Edward’s first appearance in “Eclipse.” Of course, I did scream when he proposed to Bella! “Breaking Dawn” was a different experience, though. I didn’t scream when reading it; there was a lot of crying, for obvious reasons.

Now, I’ve heard you in interviews say you don’t understand why girls and women go crazy for Edward. I can’t answer the “girl” part, since I’m a married 30-something. This is how I see it- yes, Edward is the most beautiful and perfect being Bella has ever seen. That attracts Bella at first. During their dinner in Port Angeles, Edward tells her that he doesn’t want to be a monster, that he is trying to “better” himself. I love Bella’s statement to Jess the next day- that he’s even more beautiful behind the face (or something like that), and Jess wonders how that is even possible. It’s the fact that Edward loves Bella so much, that he feels he can be himself around her, and he doesn’t have to try to fit in, that makes him attractive to readers. His protectiveness of her, his wanting to keep her safe, and his struggle of doing what he wants vs. doing what is right, are also contributing factors. So, it’s not just the beauty, but it’s the emotional and psychological facets that draw us older fans to Edward.

Thanks for asking for our opinions!

  13. barbaraaurea says:

logical, I love twilight, and when I read I start scream desperately, and start cry for emotion I don’t know edward is magic and wonderful with smiles and eyes like topazio, I love you so much robert, you are my life now and after (L)

  14. chastity1977 says:

I laughed,I blushed, I cried, I growled in frustration when Bella is about to let Jacob kiss her In New Moon (I literally shouted “She better NOT choose the wolf over the vampire) and yes I screamed. My husband thought I was nuts and he still does…I have read the entire series about a dozen times and I still react the same way (like it’s all new to me again).

  15. sherry1972 says:

Hello and good day to you. To be honest no I didnt scream when i was reading the books or even when I saw the movie. Dont get me wrong I like the books and the movie all was great and I enjoyed seeing the book come to life. But I guess I agree with Robert when he stated that people just needed to see somthing other then using their mind. The actors and actresses just made it real something to touch.
But I have a questionor/and questions for robert if I may…. Why dont you come to cincinnati ohio for a visit. why is it everyone wants to start in NY and places like that. I know thats alot to ask,but I’m sure I’m not the only wondering why..

  16. ROB says:

No, I did not scream when I read the books. I am a mother of 2 and a
wife, clearly my escape from reality is a must. Edward is the idea man to
me. And Robert Pattinson playing the part, because he is so hot, even
though I am 32. I do not consider myself a drama queen, but who knows
if I was lucky enough to run into Pattinson myself, maybe I would scream!!

  17. princesstess83 says:

Funny, I thought I was the only one who screamed while reading BD. I screamed in frustation a FEW times. I laughed, a few tears fell while reading the others, but no screaming until BD. I have read the first 3 books 4 times, I can’t bring myself to read BD another time. It was dissapointing. I was in SF with all the screaming teenagers, I could not handle that, it was RIDICULOUS. I would never scream if I met a celb. I would def. love to sit down with him and have a conversation, because I also play the piano and he seems like a very intellectual deep person. But the last thing that would make anyone stop and talk to you is probably screaming and crying at them. I sure would not stop.

  18. phanti123 says:

i screamed when jacob kissied bella and i cried, i also screamed in breaking dawn because i so wanted to be bella when they were on esme’s island..

well i did scream at the book but if i would scream at you
it wil be because of your amazing personality. :D

  21. hiphiparay says:

i have to say that i did not scream during Twilight but i did in New Moon and Breaking Dawn. But there were a few parts that made me laugh. The movie would be another story though.

  22. NiCoLeeLoCiN says:

screaming while reading the books? hmm sorry but I think that’s a bit weird. I’m not a screamer at all… and in this topic I don’t really think age counts cuz I’m 15 and I don’t scream.

  23. shannon08 says:

First off the whole screaming thing is a little rediculose.I don’t think any person enjoys being screamed out, and I can only imagine how annoying it would get quickly, even if its from adoring fans. As far as screaming at the books I would say there were time I felt like screaming while reading them such as when Edward leaves in NM, at Bella in Eclipse when she’s going back & forth between Edward & Jacob. The characters do bring out strong feelings for those of us who have strong views on the series and the characters. Even if you didn’t always agree with some of the character’s actions at times the series, that is what makes the series so addictive.

  24. fireice says:

I made all sorts of noises when reading the books. My kids even made fun of me for giggling, sighing and showing emotion in my face while I was reading. I always get really into my books. Of course I am not sure that I would scream at you if I saw you. I realize that you and Edward are seperate people. However, I would be more interested in talking to and learning more about you. From what I have heard, I think it would be a fun and fascinating conversation. Of course I also have the instinct to protect you from the screaming fans when you need a break, but I think that’s just the mother in me.

  25. MizHafHaf says:

LMAO! YES!!! I didn’t scream like a maniac it was more like high pitched cmments like ‘AWW’ and ‘OMG He’s sooo cute!’ and ‘ ARGH I HATE JACOB!’.

    TEAM EDWARD WOOO

  28. Lourdes says:

    Hi Rob!

In response to your question, in reality the only book that was truly screamed with New Moon. When Edward appears in Volterra, was so excited that I began to scream ”Oh my god,Edward is back” and I was screaming at least 3 minutes.

If you have too, screamed when I saw you as Edward in the movie. You did a great job playing Edward, I really loved it.

You are a great actor and I love your work, I very much like to see Little Ashes and How To Be.

    I wish you much luck!

    PS: I LOVE YOU!

  29. saelynne says:

hello Rob! How are you? To answer your question, I don’t remember screaming out loud at least when I read the book. However, I do remember gushing and, yeah well maybe screaming JUST a little. I can’t really scream otherwise my boss would wonder what’s gotten into me.Anyways, hope you’d get your ears insured (lol kidding!)because there are still 3 more movies to make and the poor things might not be able to withstand too much screaming. Best of luck in your singing and movie carreer! God bless!

  30. Soul says:

I didn’t scream while reading the books hahaha, it would be funny, but I didn’t do it. I smiled and got nervous, it was funny, I was hallucinating because of my behaviour.

    Take care !

  31. lifesabeach00247 says:

Hi Rob…my name’s Katie and I just wanted to let you know I didn’t SCREAM while reading the books…I did tear up a bit however. The books do bring about a lot of emotion.

Good luck with the filming of New Moon. You’re an amazing musician and I hope you are able to use more of your own music for any of your upcoming projects.

Keep up the good work and good luck! I’m hoping that I’ll SOMEDAY make it to a premier of some sort and be able to meet you in person.

  32. gwensilverdragon says:

No, I did not scream while reading the books. I laughed a few times and once or twice felt a bit uncomfortable but other than that it was a pretty unemotional experience overall.

  34. I screamed (well more like OHMYGOD ) when Bella kissed Jacob (: And also when i found out robert was going to play edward – i wasnt expecting that! Hes amazing though – he suits the role perfectly.

  35. danni34 says:

Obviously, I got in trouble for it too. I was reading it during school and everyone was very quiet then, I forget what part I was reading, but I sort of squealed more than screamed, and everyone just turned and stared at me and my teacher yelled at me. They all thought I was crazy, but this was about a year before twilight became so huge. Now they would understand.

  36. gracinha says:

  37. twi-hard-ashley says:

well, actually i think i did scream a few times,
it just depends on the book and scene.
I exspecially screamed and almost cried while
    reading about the break up,
but i LOVED the honeymoon part.
i never want the Twilight saga to end!
[though ive read all the books]
great job on the movie everyone! :D

  38. McKailyn Houston (Ives) says:

    Robert,
I think it’s sort of a funny question “Do you scream when you read the books?” lol. I did not scream once through the whole series (including midnight sun) but i did make my own comments out loud while I read the book I also made alot of gasps and giggles. But no screams. giggle, giggle
